I love yarn pom poms, and it’s so easy and fun to make!  All you need is a fork with four tines and yarn!

Here’s HOW-TO:

1) Start off with a string of yarn cut about 10-12 inches in length.  Place the string between the two middle tines, and just let it hang downward (half of the string should hang in front of the fork, and the other half should hang behind it).  This string will be the piece that you’ll use to tie it all together in the end.DIY Yarn Pom Pom With A Fork

2) Take your roll(s) of yarn and wind it around the base of the fork.  If you’re using more than one color like I did, just align all the yarn at the top end.  Wrap it around the root of the tines, keeping it attached to the ball of yarn.  Keep wrapping and wrapping.  The bigger you want the pom pom, the more you wrap.  The smaller you want it, the less you wrap.

3)  Take the string that’s hanging (from step 1), pull it upward, and tie off the wrap.  Pull it tight so the middle gets scrunched down, and tie a knot. How To Make A Yarn Pom Pom

4)  Cut the two outer sides of the wrap.  Cut it in layers.  It’s easier than trying to cut it all at once.DIY Yarn Pom Pom Using A Fork

5)  Trim the edges to get a circular shape, if needed. How To Make A Yarn Pom Pom With A ForkYarn Pom Pom

And that’s all there is to it!  Just 5 easy steps.  DIY Yarn Pom Pom

I attached this pom pom to the end of the infant crochet elf hat I made for a good friend.  So cute!
