Happy 4th of July, and here’s another set of patriotic nails for you!  Similar to my Memorial Day nails, I am using the colors of our grand old flag.

I failed at my first attempt of doing these nails because I tried to do too many stripes, so the lines weren’t clean, and the blue I used was too light.  I was telling Steel how they looked like Christmas Where’s Waldo nails.  See for yourself.  FAIL!

Look at those pathetic stripes!  Nothing grand about that.  Luckily, I was able to fix the 2 striped fingers by going easy on the stripes, and I painted one layer of dark blue over the lighter blue.  I was much happier with the end result.

4th of July Nails FAIL

What I really need to do is get my hands on some nail art tape, so I can stop using my husband’s paint tape.  That would definitely make life a little easier for myself, and I’d probably get much cleaner lines.  Still, there’s something about making things work with whatever I can find around the house that brings me great joy.  So I doubt I’ll be rushing out to the beauty supply store to get nail art supplies.  Painter’s tape will do for now.

These were all colors I already had: China Glaze Thunderbird (red), Sinful Colors Snow Me White, a mixture of OPI No Room For the Blues and Incognito in Sausalito (blue).  I used China Glaze Feeling Twinkly blue glitter and Delight gold glitter over white.  And of course, I always start with Stuck On You base coat and end with 0-60 Speedy Top Coat.

To create the stripes and thumb lines, I used painter’s tape and cut it into thin strips.  Ignore the amount of tape I used for the stripes in the next 2 series of pictures.  Those were the ones that failed because I tried to do too many.  I changed it later to just 4 stripes in the 3rd set of pictures.   For these ones, only look at the thumb.Patriotic Nails

Here’s where I went back and painted over the light blue with dark, and redid the stripes.  Much better!Independence Day Nail Art
